Recognizing and Responding To Mental Health Concerns, Including Suicidal Risk In The Workplace
Session Overview: HR professionals are often the members of an organization who best can best spot irregularities in an employee’s behavior. In addition, they are frequently the “people advocates” in the organization, looking out for everyone’s welfare. This presentation will help you become more aware of those irregularities that may be signs of high-risk behaviors and warnings of self-destructive inclinations. Learning objectives include being able to identify what high-risk behaviors and warning signs to look for, know what protective actions to take and what resources are available, as well as to gain an understanding of the scope of suicide occurrences nationwide and regionally among the general population and among veterans and Guard members and reservists.
About Our Presenter: Beth Alves, LCSW, is a graduate of Brown University, where she earned a degree in Human Biology. She received a Master's Degree in Social Work from Rhode Island College, and began her career working in special education settings, both school and residential. She moved to NH and worked for five years as a psychiatric social worker for the State of NH. For the past six years, Beth has been a clinical social worker with the Department of Veterans Affairs, assisting homeless and formerly homeless Veterans in their recovery. In September, she became the VA's Suicide Prevention Coordinator.
