Session Description: New Year and new laws! The Feds and other lawmakers were busy in 2016, and intend to stay busy in 2017. Now is the time to get caught up and get ready for what’s coming. This session will provide an overview of key court decisions and legislative changes and initiatives in 2016. The presenters will also give practical tips and take aways for HR professionals to use in adapting their policies and procedures to these changes. Issues to be discussed will include major employment law cases issued in 2016, New Hampshire and Massachusetts legislative developments, and implementation of the USDOL’s regulations revamping the salary test for exempt categories under the FLSA. Other regulatory initiatives will also be covered, including those by the EEOC, OSHA, and USDOL. The presenters will also discuss what to look forward to in 2017.
Andrea G. Chatfield: Andrea advises employers on risk management issues in the workplace including personnel decisions and high level policy-making decisions. She develops employee handbooks, executive employment agreements, non-competition agreements, and other organizational protocols. Andrea has successfully represented employers of all types and sizes before administrative agencies in discrimination and wage disputes. Andrea also serves as an outside investigator for internal complaints of discrimination and harassment and conducts in-house trainings for employers on preventing workplace harassment and how to manage within the law. Andrea is recognized by Chambers USA as one of New Hampshire’s leading Employment Law attorneys, listed in Best Lawyers of America® for Employment Law – Management, and is Martindale Hubbell Peer Review rated AV®. She earned her undergraduate degree from Suffolk University (summa cum laude) and her law degree from Syracuse University College of Law (magna cum laude).
Jennifer Shea Moeckel: Jen devotes her practice to assisting employers in complying with legal requirements during all phases of the employment relationship and defending employers in discrimination and other claims pending before state and federal agencies. Jen provides training for employers on issues including harassment prevention and managing within the law, and conducts workplace investigations. She also defends employers before the New Hampshire Commission for Human Rights, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and state and federal Departments of Labor. Jen frequently presents on employment law topics for business, industry, and employer groups. Jen is recognized by Chambers USA as one of New Hampshire’s leading Employment Law attorneys, is listed in Best Lawyers of America® for Employment Law – Management, is a New England Super Lawyer in the area of Employment and Labor, and is Martindale Hubbell Peer Review rated AV®. She earned her undergraduate degree from UNH (magna cum laude) and her law degree from Boston College Law School (cum laude).
