Hiring Veterans
SHRA is honored to work as a Chapter to execute on the SHRM Foundation’s "Veterans at Work" initiative. Please look through their "Veterans at Work Digital Toolkit" and the corresponding Certificate program.
We would also like to introduce a new program that many may not yet be aware of: The “HIRE Vets Medallion Program” for employers. If you are a “Veteran Friendly” employer and have a track record of hiring and retaining Veterans, you may want to consider applying for status in the DOL Medallion Program at https://www.hirevets.gov/. This program is designed to recognize those who employ our country's heroes. Within SHRA, we anticipate providing assistance to a few select companies who plan to apply and we encourage other chapters to participate as well. By shining a light on companies who already hire and retain Veterans, we hope to help build a pipeline for Veterans’ advocacy groups to look to for placement.
The DOL, NHES, VA, Easter Seals and similar groups all provide advocacy, skills development and support for Veterans in need of employment. One of the biggest challenges they are experiencing is a lack of relationships with employers who may have openings to fill. We believe SHRA can help create these relationships through our Chapter and help the Veterans in our community find meaningful work in the civilian world.
